Huntersville NC Real Estate Overview

Huntersville is a decent sized town in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The town is located in the Charlotte Metropolitan area, just 12 miles west of downtown Charlotte and is the 19th largest town in North Carolina. The town was incorporated in 1873, and there is a debate about where the city’s name comes from. Some believe it was named after Revolutionary War hero and minister at Steele Creek and Unity Presbyterian, Reverend Humphrey Hunter. Others believe it was named after a local cotton farmer, Robert B. Hunter.

Huntersville is one of only three towns in Mecklenburg county that are north of Charlotte. The other two being Cornelius and Davidson. These three towns make up the area known to locals as “North Meck”. Huntersville has express bus transportation as well as an interstate that ends five miles south of Huntersville. This provides easy access to the downtown business areas in Charlotte and makes Huntersville an ideal home for commuters who prefer to work in Charlotte but live outside of the hustle and bustle. There are six weekly newspapers serving Huntersville, including “The Lake Norman Citizen” and “The Herald Weekly”.

Huntersville is in close proximity to Lake Norman and Mountain Island Lake, making it a lake community. Mountain Island Lake is Charlotte’s city water source. Huntersville is also a great golf community, for it is home to a private golf course at Northstone Country Club and two semi-private golf courses, Skybrook Golf Club and Birkdale Golf Course. The semi-golf courses are both part of the 6-course Carolina Trail and offer package deals. The town is also headquarters to the NASCAR race shops of Joe Gibbs Racing. The race shop runs three Sprint Cup Series teams: #3 FedEx Toyota Camry, #18 M&M’s Toyota Camry, and #20 Dollar General Toyota Camry.

The town started out as a small mill town and evolved into a lively modern community. The Latta Plantation is an old cotton plantation from the 19th-century with guided tours for those who would enjoy learning about some of the town’s history. The farm introduces the way the planters, slaves, and settlers of back country North Carolina lived. The Carolina Raptor Center is a great way to get out into nature and learn about wild birds. The facility educates visitors on many bird varieties, and shows birds being taken care of until they are able to be released back into the wild. Children have been known to enjoy the walk through nature.

Birkdale Village is a relatively new shopping center and residential community in Huntersville. The shopping center has everything you could possibly need including children’s apparel, unisex apparel, men and women’s apparel, cosmetic supplies, beauty and health supplies, food, sporting goods, wine, and more! There’s even a Walgreens for anything you may need that you can’t get at the retail stores. Some retail chains include Gymboree, Victoria’s Secret, Bath and Body Works, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Starbucks is available for coffee and snacks. When it comes to restaurants, Birkdale Village offers a delicious selection. Some of the restaurants are Zoe’s Kitchen, Brixx Wood Fired Pizza, Red Rocks Café, Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar, and Fox and Hound. You can also catch a movie here at the Regal Cinemas at Birkdale. You could spend an entire day at the shopping center clothes shopping, running errands, grabbing lunch or dinner, or catching a movie with friends. Even stop by at Total Wine and More on your way home to relax with a glass of wine once you arrive.

Huntersville has many beautiful communities and homes that are great for raising a family in. Some great subdivisions include Birkdale, Vermillion, Monteith Park, Macaulay, and Northstone. The vast majority of homes in these communities are three-to-five bedroom, single-family homes. The Birkdale subdivision is within walking distance of the Birkdale Village Shops, so you can run your errands, grab a bite, or catch a movie and walk right back home. Run out of wine? You can walk right over to Total Wine and More and be back home in no time at all. The exercise and fresh air are always refreshing as well. The Vermillion subdivision has its very own restaurant named Harvey’s. Monteith Park features many Charleston-style porches on the front of their homes. This community is exceptionally great for families as it features a playground, a walking trail, and a swimming pool with a slide. The front yards with spacious porches are great for front porch events, and the pool would be wonderful for pool parties in the summer. The Macaulay subdivision is in close proximity to Lake Norman, shopping, dining, and golf courses. Last, but surely not least, Northstone provides a lush green landscape, a private golf course, and has a country atmosphere. You almost feel as though you’re living in the country, but you get the perks of suburbs-community living.

Huntersville is a small-town with a large community. The town gives you more than you would even think to ask for. It is home to various attractions, shopping, entertainment, dining, natural parks, NASCAR, and more. Huntersville has something for everyone.
